Forwards and aliases are useful for distributing emails to various recipients.

Forward vs Alias

A forward will send emails to a different address while still storing those emails in the original mailbox.

Example: address1@example.com is set to forward to address2@example.com. An email sent to address1@example.com will be delivered to both address1@example.com and address2@example.com.

An alias is not a proper email account. Aliases do not store any email, they simply forward mail to the intended recipient.

Example: address1@example.com is an alias of address2@example.com. An email sent to address1@example.com will be delivered only to address2@example.com.

Adding a forward to an email address

  • Log into MyDot and click on Email in the menu on the left.
  • You will be presented with a list of domains.
  • Locate your email address by scrolling to the correct domain and clicking View.
  • Scroll to the address you wish to modify, and click Edit.
  • Next to Forwards click Edit.
  • Enter the forwarding address, and click Save.

Creating an alias

You can create a new alias address, or convert an existing address to an alias. Note that if you convert an existing address to an alias, you will no longer receive email to that address. Only the final recipient address will receive emails. Any email stored on the server for the alias will be deleted.

  • Log into MyDot and click on Email in the menu on the left.
  • You will be presented with a list of domains.
  • Follow the steps below to add a new alias or convert an existing address to an alias.

Adding a new alias

  • Click ADD at the top right.
  • Select the domain to which you want to add the alias.
  • Enter the alias address and click ACCEPT.
  • You will need to enter your chosen password twice. Ensure that it's the same both times.
  • Click Add.
  • Follow the steps below to convert this new address to an alias.

Converting an address to an alias

  • Next to the domain name, click VIEW.
  • Locate your alias and click EDIT.
  • Next to Forwards click EDIT.
  • Remove the tick next to Store mail.
  • Enter the recipient address in the Forwards field.
  • Click SAVE.
