A Computer
You can use either a laptop or regular desktop computer with your Mobile Broadband connection.
Should you be using a desktop, your PC should be less than four years old as it will then have a USB 2.0 slot which is needed for your modem. If you are using a laptop, it should have either a 2.0 USB port or a 5cm PCMCIA slot. "What is that?" we hear you say. Not to worry, if you are at all unsure of anything, give us a call or click the "Help Me" button at the top of this window and we will assist you.
Coverage
You need to be in an area where there is Vodacom coverage. Different areas have different connection abilities. You can either check using the "check your coverage" button above to see what you can get in your area, or give us a call and we will check for you
To get an understanding of the speeds linked to the coverage types please see the "Lingo Defined" page.
A 3G Modem
Your modem is what connects you to the cellular network. A USB modem looks like a flash stick and the PCMCIA modems are thin and flat – both are small enough to carry in your pocket. This means wherever you are you can take the internet with you – your very own mobile office!
Modems are pre-tested and couriered to your door within 3 working days.
Internet Airtime & Sim Card
How much "internet airtime" you need depends on what you want to do on the net. If you want to check mail on the move, do banking, or basic surfing, 250 or 500 MB should be enough. Videos and social networking will need a bit more. We will deliver the sim card to you within 48 hours and setup could not be any easier. Simply insert it into your modem, much like with your cellphone.
